This Mother's Day we would like to spotlight one of our favorite global mamas that has devoted her life to a mission much like our own, to bring hope to the unreached and awareness to global poverty. Kathy Brooks, a biological
mother of 5, has also become a mother to hundreds of children in Haiti through her work with MUCH Ministries. MUCH Ministries is a non-profit organization started by Kathy and her husband, Beaver, with the mission to inspire and empower individuals, families and communities to move from a mindset of poverty to a posture of abundance through education, creativity and practical life experiences. For the last eight years they have been developing five ministries under MUCH that include working in Haiti in collaboration with many missionaries, schools, pastors, feeding programs, and organizations to aid in the restoration and progress of Haiti. For nine years, Kathy and Beaver have been working in Haiti to create relationships with the people and show love to all that they encounter. Kathy, is known as "Mama Kathy" in Haiti as well as here in the states because her ease of love and beautiful way of connecting with everyone she meets. Her passion for the people of Haiti is an inspiration to so many in our local community and a source of encouragement to the suffering in Haiti. A quote, often used by MUCH Ministries well represents the passion behind Kathy's work.
“Although the world is full of suffering,
It is also full of the overcoming of it” -Helen Keller
What started as a feeding program has now developed into a trade school in Jubilee with the slogan "empowering people to create a future." Through the trade school, Kathy is facilitating and teaching the people in Haiti to become self-sufficient by learning trades that allow them to receive fair wages for their work. The Haitian people have endured many hardships and are survivors of the 2008 flood and 2010 earthquakes that left the area devastated. But with the help of people like Mama Kathy, they are encouraged and resilient. Kathy and Beaver, are gearing up to move to Haiti to invest their lives fully to the mission of restoring Haiti and empowering the Haitian people by learning trades that lead to self-sufficiency. So this Mother's Day, we celebrate Mama Kathy and her devotion to the people of Haiti.
